How to Choose the Right Car for Your Income

Talking about How to Choose the Right Car for Your Income

I have seen people buy cars that make them look successful but leave them struggling financially.

I have also seen people buy cars that fit their income, enjoy driving them, and still have money to take care of other important things in their lives. But I highly recommend this part.

The difference is understanding that choosing the right car for your income is not about how much money you can gather to buy a car.

It is about how comfortably you can afford to own it.

When I started spending time around cars, visiting car stands, driving different models, and learning about car ownership, I realized that the purchase price was only one part of the story at least most likely.

Here is what I believe everyone should understand before buying a car.

Don’t Buy a Car Just Because You Can Afford It

Imagine someone earning ₦500,000 monthly who decides to buy a big car because the purchase price is within reach. Omo!

At first, everything feels good. The car looks beautiful, people admire it, and the owner feels proud. But we feel good once, nobody really cares.

After buying a car the expenses begin. Fuel, servicing, insurance, repairs, and other bills start competing with rent, food, savings, and personal needs.

Suddenly, the car that was supposed to make life easier becomes a financial burden.

Please understand the trick I’m teaching you here, it will safe you a lot.

This is why choosing a car based on your income requires more than looking at the price tag.

Ask yourself: after buying this car, can I comfortably maintain it and still live the life I want?

I do this in almost anything I do, I don’t aim to pay high for something and hope that one day  the money will keep coming, even though it would, I still will choose to be smart. On getting a car ask yourself can I really keep up with the expenses?

If the answer is no, you may need to consider another car.

Calculate What You Can Spend Every Month

Before choosing a car, look at your actual monthly income, not the money you hope to make. Nobody will come and help you o, you have to look into this

If your income changes every month, use a conservative estimate rather than your best month.

Now consider your regular expenses, including rent, feeding, transportation, family responsibilities, savings, and other commitments.

What remains is what you can work with.

Your car budget should account for fuel, routine maintenance, insurance, and unexpected repairs. If you are financing the vehicle, include your monthly repayments.

There is no single percentage of income that works for everyone. Someone earning ₦1 million monthly with heavy responsibilities may have less money available for a car than someone earning ₦600,000 with fewer expenses.

The right car is the one your income can support without forcing you to sacrifice important things.

Sometimes, Buying a Toyota Makes More Sense Than Buying a Benz and that’s the first hand truth.

I love beautiful cars. I understand the feeling of driving a Mercedes-Benz, BMW, or Lexus and enjoying the comfort, appearance, and attention that comes with it.

But loving a car does not mean you should buy it immediately. In fact I personally have a Toyota I was given as gift I don’t like that car but the car loves me so much, allow me to say, it hardly break down, its so good that I cant remember when I spend so much on it, but I also have a Benz that my mechanic and people around him know me so much because of the Benz.

The Benz I loved end up giving me tough time can you imagine?

Imagine two people with similar incomes. One buys an older luxury car because it looks more expensive. The other chooses a reliable, well-maintained car with affordable servicing and readily available spare parts.

The first person might enjoy more attention, but if the car develops an expensive fault, that enjoyment can quickly disappear.

The second person might have chosen a less flashy vehicle, but could have more financial breathing room.

This does not mean luxury cars are bad purchases. It means you should understand their maintenance costs before committing.

At Lawrencegotkeys, I believe a car should fit your lifestyle, not become a burden you carry just to impress people.

Leave Money for Problems You Cannot Predict

One mistake people make when buying their first car is spending almost everything they have on the purchase.

They assume that because the car is working perfectly during inspection, nothing will go wrong afterward.

Unfortunately, cars are machines, and unexpected problems can happen.

Before buying a car, keep some money aside for maintenance and emergencies. Have a qualified mechanic inspect the vehicle, check its service history where available, and investigate common problems associated with that particular model and year.

If purchasing the car means you will have nothing left for repairs, you may be buying too much car for your current financial situation.

Choose the Car That Matches Your Current Life

Your first car does not have to be your dream car.

Perhaps you need a vehicle for commuting to work, running a business, transporting your family, or creating content. These needs should influence your decision.

Consider fuel consumption, comfort, reliability, spare parts, passenger space, and the kind of roads you regularly drive on.

You can always upgrade when your income grows.

There is nothing wrong with starting with a modest car and working toward the luxury vehicle you genuinely want.

Lawrencegotkeys was built to help people understand cars and make informed buying decisions, not simply encourage everyone to buy the most expensive vehicle they can find.

l will suggest you do the following

Before choosing a car, ask yourself three questions.

Can I afford to buy it without destroying my savings?

Can I maintain it comfortably with my current income?

Will owning it improve my life rather than create unnecessary financial pressure?

They won’t teach you this anywhere and nothing like this is on the internet, I showed you all this to helpm you avoid stress.

Remember, the goal is not just to own a car. It is to enjoy owning one.
